In 1993, ten men set out to create an organization that was greatly needed at the University of California, Santa Barbara . These men, our founding fathers, realized that there was a need for a group that transcended the existing barriers on campus, within the Greek system, and in the social strata. This group was one that accepted members for reasons previously unknown to the community. Their ideas for membership went beyond racial and cultural barriers thereby creating Sigma Chi Omega Multicultural Fraternity. The organization became the first multicultural interest fraternity to be founded at the UC Santa Barbara campus.
First Multicultural Fraternity at the University of California, Santa Barbara
Sigma Chi Omega was founded in 1993 by ten friends who wanted to give back to the community what they themselves received: support, encouragement, and service. Without the limit of racial boundaries, Sigma Chi Omega, a multicultural fraternity, seeks to contribute to the betterment of the University of California Santa Barbara and other universities as it expands to other campuses. When you are in Sigma Chi Omega, you are not only among brothers, you are among friends.
